Workshops & transmission

For Nacera Belaza, creation and awareness-raising are part of the same artistic process. It is through these two aspects that she has built her research, perpetually associating and linking creation with artistic actions. Throughout the last twenty years, the choreographer has drawn from these actions to create her pieces and the dialogue with the other has always nourished her work through a virtuous exchange in which the artist and the audience contribute to each other.

The choreographer’s creative cycle regularly alternates between a year of creation and a year of research, a time of reflection, maturation and inspiration that has taken the form of workshops in recent years. The choreographer meets regularly with groups of dancers and amateurs with whom she explores new material and questions her own way of thinking and creating.

Open to all in the form of practice workshops or master classes, the aim is to introduce participants to a body language. From spectator, one becomes a dancer and through this real practice of the body, one measures the distance between what one perceives and what one experiences. This distance makes it possible to adjust one’s gaze and to understand what is at stake on the stage. The workshops are based on Nacera Belaza’s own research objects: “To seek movement within oneself, a movement that is not controlled and not constrained, a free and open movement. To have a neutral body available to listen to the space around it. To feel the space, to appropriate it and to invest it.”
